Day 4- Now Set Your Heart

When David was in the wilderness being hunted by Saul, David cried out, “O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.” (Psalm 63:1).

If there was ever was a challenging season for most, this is it. And like David, you may find yourself walking in the wilderness. You may feel weary, you may be spiritually dry, and you may even have felt like giving up. During these times, you might have become distracted, taken your eyes off Jesus, neglected the things of the spirit, and tried to satisfy yourself with worldly pleasures and temporary fulfillments.

We can learn a lot from how David responded in Psalm 63. Instead of turning away from God, he pressed in to God.

We need to press in to God. We need to heed the words David told his son, Solomon: “Now set your heart and soul to seek the Lord your God” (1 Chronicles 22:19). We need to earnestly seek Him… and the time is now. We need to turn our eyes from worthless things (Psalm 119:37) and “fix our attention on God” (Romans 12:2) again. We need to thirst for the living water (John 4:14).

Consider these promises: “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13), and “He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6). This means when we set our hearts to seek Him, we won’t be disappointed. We will find Him!

God not only wants to found by you, He wants to take you deeper in Him and satisfy you with good things. Psalm 42:7 says “deep calls unto deep”. God is calling us to go deeper… to go deeper in our knowledge of Him, deeper in our relationship with Him, become more deeply rooted in Him, and plunge the depths of His love. Nothing in this world compares to what we can experience in God. Psalm 107:9 says, “for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things”. It’s in the depths of God, that we find the most joy, peace, and satisfaction.

Let’s set our hearts to seek the Lord and go deeper in Him.

Prayer: Lord God, you are awesome. I thank you that I may come to you and know you intimately. Forgive me, Lord, for my distraction and complacency. Please reveal anything in my heart that displeases you and help me to respond quickly. I don’t want anything to separate me from you. Lord, I want to know you more. I want to draw closer to you than ever before. I ask that you take me to the deep places in you. I ask that you open the eyes of my understanding that I may grow in the wisdom and knowledge of you. I ask that you reveal the depths of your love. I ask that you open my spiritual ears to hear your voice. Teach me your ways and transform me to be more like you. Stir a thirst in me for you that cannot be quenched. Thank you, Lord. for I know that when I draw near you, you draw near to me.
